The last day to travel the entire 50 miles of Going to the Sun Road is weather dependent but generally, the road closes by mid-October. The closure is only about 15 miles of the 50 mile long, Going to the Sun Road. To get from side to side you would need to go around the park on Hwy 2. Through travel will not be possible, but you can drive the sections that are open and turn around to exit. The entire eastern half of the road from St Mary up to Logan Pass will be open, including the Logan Pass Visitor Center. The closure starts 16 miles in on the west side, at Avalanche Creek, so you can still go in the west side for 16 miles, which includes Apgar, Lake McDonald Lodge area, and Trail of the Cedars/Avalanche area. Going-to-the-Sun Road will not open to Logan Pass before June 21 this year, AND in 2020, the road will not open before June 22 if necessary in order to complete pavement preservation activities. "Pavement preservation will impact spring hiker and biker access and restrictions will likely be in place on both sides of the pass between Avalanche and Rising Sun.
